The Caring Bunch

Caring group of bloggers
To all of you ~ wonderful, faithful friends, thank you so much for caring, the prayers, the e-mails were a huge pick me up and the comments left really touched my heart. I award you all with this wonderful caring group of "CARE'ers".      MAY 2013 BE THE GREATEST FOR YOU ALL!!!

I am doing much better health wise, I have a long way on recovery but I can handle it better than where I was before, alot has happen this last week, lots of happiness and then heartache drama. oh and  I wrecked my car hitting some ice and almost went over the side of the mountain with my 10 yr. old whom now is having nightmares (there goes my mom of the year award ~ dang it ~ I was so close this year too lol) but I managed to get the car back on the road and wreck into a rock on the bank side instead. We are both fine I had a slight bump on the jaw from the steering wheel or possibly from my hands flying all over the place trying to get control of the spinning car (it is possible I hit myself in the face lol). I lost my favorite uncle from my step-dads side of the family to cancer he had fought it for years, my uncle Michael was the only person in that family that EVER cared for me or tried to stick up for me from the abuse. He did and always will hold a very special place in my heart forever and always.
I have several posts to still finish from before I got sick, like our office soup off/ugly sweater contest. I also have lots of catching up on all of you, so this evening I plan on making the rounds.
My plans for New Year's have been postponed but no worries on that we are still able to do our get away without being charged for rescheduling.
LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL FRIENDS AND GRAB THAT CARING AWARD YOU DESERVE IT....EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!!

Thanks to her coworker for the help I am writing to tell you all Janice is spending sometime in the hospital we are hoping to have her home by Tuesday but no promises. I know she loves all of you she is always on her laptop saying almost done I just have to leave a message for one of my blog friends those messages spill into late nights alot. I have been read funny writings from many of you. she has had me pray along side of her for many of you too and blog friends mentioned at meals during grace.  thank you all for caring for her. My wife is the most unselfish big hearted person I have ever met. if you need anything she will make it happen no matter what very few people keep there word like my wife. She does things without wanting in return. Her life has been a series of painful events but yet she still cares she donates and volunteers to many things without ever mentioning it or being called out for it she believes what the Bible says we are to do Gods work silently without praise from others.I have had calls from people thanking her for things not even I knew she had helped in some way or sent a donation. I love her so much. Janice looks into hearts she likes people for people she can talk to anybody and she does. we have no idea how she does the things she does or gotten through what she has it just seems impossible but she does. she hates to be fussed over doesn't like it at all and she is the only women I know who hates to be bought flowers no store flowers for her took me years to get that. She can not get on blog but she can get her e-mail off her phone  janicewallick hotmail.  Merry Christmas and send a little prayer for her please. God Bless

I am a Christian

A good friend of mine e-mailed me these and with this weeks of medical stuff she wanted me to focus on what I can control not on what I can't.  To focus on the reason for the season not the drama filled games of who can out do who. She also reminded me why I let go of certain people and certain lifestyles and the article below brings it into perfect life. I am a Christian not a perfect one but none the less I am one.

Feelings This Past year in Quotes

How Did She Know? I Love Her & Her HUgs

So you know when you have that conversation with husband, children, friends, the dog, your co-worker, the fish, or even another person standing in line with you during your lunch hour making small talk and you somehow hope that 6 degrees of bla bla applies here and she or he can tell your husband MIL, adult children, co-worker, etc... what you secretly most wish for to get from them for Christmas???
I have asked my husband to tell our adult children or his mom or the dog, if they want to get me a gift that I really need or want, I want and need some cute new dish towels. The kids do not take me serious they think I am just mom being mom and know they don't have alot of money so I am giving them a break and asking for "stupid" dish towels!! Folks there is nothing stupid about new dish towels...right ladies?? a whole year has past in this order with last Christmas...no dish towels..... Valentines Day.....no dish towels.......Easter.....no dish towels.......my birthday......no dish towels......Mother's Day.....NO DISH TOWELS ....seriously on Mother's Day?!?!? Anniversary.....no dish towels......now Christmas is coming upon us again and when I told everyone again....DISH TOWELS, they looked at me like I had asked for a camel ride in the snow!!!

This week I was surprised more than you could know, my dear, wonderful, sweet,
adopted blog mama......

sent me these adorable DISH TOWELS!!!
Thank YOU so very much....LOVE them !!!

I have written about how wonderful Beth is before and how much her HUGS mean the world to us all, the link to that post is below titled "Thanks Beth" click on it and read my shout out to this wonderful lady. Also Beth's sister is having surgery Tuesday she would appreciate prayers for her, they do not live close, Beth is worried for her an understandably so. Please give Beth a prayer for her sister and send her a HUG. OHHH can you believe my cute dish towels?? They say "warm winter hugs" and then the other one has these super cute snowmen on them, but how appropriate towels with HUGS from Beth. Love you Mama Beth and love my towels, how did you know??

Thanks Beth.....! (click this to read post)

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday!!

1. If you bake during the holidays, what is your favorite thing to make? I love making brittle I do cashew brittle instead of peanut. Toffee is another favorite and then just recently I shared the caramel recipe with my oldest, the only problem is wrapping the caramels it is a pain. oh wait you said BAKE ....I love to bake .....cakes...I love cake so I will get a basic box mix and church it up.....yes church it up, thank you Joe Dirt for the term I use it quite often.

2. Present giving: Gift bag vs wrapped box? I usually wrap most gifts but somethings I will use a gift bag like the cute bottle gift bags they have. we did homemade kahula so the gift bags came in handy for those gifts. I do hate the paper that gets wasted though in the wrapping, would like to get a recylce project on wrapping paper going.

3. What do you keep your thermostat on during the winter/summer in your house?
Don't have one we have a wood stove only and summer just windows and ceiling fans.4. When thinking of your "Christmas to-do list" what percentage "done" are you?
NOPE, but I do have a few people accomplished I am 40% maybe??5. Do you do the "Elf on a Shelf"? If so, is your Elf naughty and what shenanigans has he gotten into? No we don't now but I do want to get it started with the grandson next year, when Elf came out we weren't home enough to do it, we were always working so he is still in the original package waiting for us to bring the tradition into the family. He has sat in my decorations now 6 years next year we will play with him finally.

Pondering with a Purpose~Memories

Photobucket"/>The rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Come back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list below.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt: Memories

Do you have any memories that would be fascinating for someone else to read about in one hundred years? or even ten?

My memories are strong. I am 47 years old and I can still picture the house we lived in when I was 4 years old. I can even go back to being 2 but those are somewhat spotty. I can still remember the sound of my moms thick accent voice as she tried to pronounce certain words in English. My children will say they do not remember things when they were little and I know that was my fault they erased those thoughts and images. But I know they were later replaced with good memories just like they did for me, they are my happy thought/memory.

I do feel like I have a memory like an elephant, it has been said to me by numerous friends and family, but what does that saying really mean? Elephants make a journey that even in impossible conditions they do not forget how to get there and I know my story is that like the elephants it will be fascinating and it will be remembered at least by me.

Two Shoes Tuesday ~Share

Two Shoes Tuesday #15 - Share

Welcome to Two Shoes Tuesday... a place to share what we enjoy doing most... writing! Each week I provide a one-word writing prompt and invite you to share a short story, poem, essay, thought, or photo relating to that topic. You can add a link to your post anytime, there is no deadline.

This week's writing prompt is "share".
My share this week is the first part of my care home story, this writing has been a huge burden for me to write and it was even a bigger burden to bare but by sharing it I just might have closure from it FINALLY. It will be in parts so I welcome you all to come back for the other parts.

The CareHome Story pt.1 The Beginning

I think it is time that I write the story of the carehome. I had in my old blog many references on the carehome but what I didn't EVER clarify is, how it came to be and how it almost killed me in more ways then the obvious ones.
This will be a story in parts because 7 years isn't a story to be told quickly and there is many moving parts to it,  but there is certain things that I might skip over due to well confidentiality.
I once owned and operated a carehome for 15 people and 6 employees.
The Pierce Guest Home was an assisted living home for the elderly. My ex-husband owned it for almost 16 years. My ex is the father of my 2 oldest children. My kids spent their weekends there while their dad worked round the clock, they were 6 & 7 yrs. old.  That type of business is 24/7,  365 days a year. I had no part in it during the early years of him first taking it over ( I was just happy he had a job & could start paying support), he took it over from an owner who was losing the license and had several bad incidents that ruined the reputation of it with abuse issues. The ex was able to regain that reputation from the early years, he was an excellent care giver whom cared for his residents greatly.
The guest home was set in a rural setting amongst the orchards and farm lands. It had a main house that had 7 bathrooms 2 large sitting rooms, huge kitchen, dining room, an upstairs apt or sleeping quarters and then 3 private outside rooms with their own bathrooms. The license was for 15 beds which meant we had private rooms and shared rooms. It had been established in the 60's by a local Dr. who seen the need of an assisted living place for those who didn't need a medical facility but just some care with meals, baths, medicine, medical appts. and housekeeping. The place had different owners thru the years but it had been part of that small community for years. The residents were are local folks who lived in the area their whole lives and even knew eachother thru family farms, the cannery, or churches. It was a sweet setting.

How do I start this..... hmmmm....First of all this was never about money, it was about helping someone out.....  I got the care home from my ex-husband, he was losing his licenses due to some violations from the state regarding poor employee 's decision that along with his personality conflict with his case worker she wanted him out!!! He had dumped so much into this home and he was losing it, he tried to sell it, put out lots of money for a Realtor to help him get it sold but the economy had dropped and the loans weren't being easily given so he couldn't get a buyer before his license was being revoked. He was soon to be homeless, he was seriously losing everything, he constantly spoke with my husband penciling and papering him with figures.... we could make this much $$$  if we took it over and then sold it once the market got better hell it was a turn key money maker if ran right and he would lease it to us and then when sold we would get our bills paid off with a lump sum for helping (again not about the $$$). The ex lived at the facility, he had no other job and yes he made money from it, but it was his dream .....it was his goal and he was able to make it work. He loved being a care giver his parents were much older when they had him & his twin and his dad was already disabled so he grew up taking care of them, losing his license was a slap to his pride, broke his heart,  but more than that he was not about to just walk away without some pay out from it.......enter ME the one person who would never allow a family member to suffer, Me the heart on my sleeves, he was my childrens father how do I face them knowing I could of helped but didn't, we got along well for our kids, they never were asked to choose, they knew there was no secrets amongst the houses. Him & I were never a good match and he wasn't a good husband for ME  (I will not drag his faults out here in this story)......for one he was a drinker when we got married but quit AFTER we divorced,  so it made it possible to interact. Holidays weren't divided up. We communicated not as a husband & wife but as a team raising kids. My husband, Michael,  gets along fine with him(well they did before this CH mess)  I did the work and the ex paid the kids bills, their dad was the provider in their later years not so much in the early years, not very present but he would make sure they had $$$ for the things they needed or wanted. Lots of friends would comment how lucky I was on how he was but the underlining thing here ....how lucky he was on how I was, I am not about money or revenge on my hurt by using my kids as weapons. I did not believe on dragging anyone thru court and I took a huge loss but I know now how much my adult children appreciate what I sacrificed of myself for them to have us both. The years of being a single mom yes single because it is easy to write a check what isn't easy is giving your time, showing up, staying up with sick kids, Dr. appts, and participating in their DAILY lives. My one rule was they could stay with him whenever..... but they live with me !!! I gave birth to them I provided that 1st home and until they were 18 they were mine no ifs or butts. His life was round the clock shifts and when home he slept what a great atmosphere for a teenager.... no supervision (NOT), so.......no living at his house!!

The beginning process to get me licensed started in March. Note I did this ALL while maintaining my FULL time job with the county in the Ag Dept. I would NOT quit my secure job, my insurance, my retirement. I used vacation time, sick leave and hours and hours of comp time, meaning I went into the office hours early. I had to attend an orientation to get familiar with what the State requires just for you to apply for a license. You have 3 chances with your application 3!!! If you do not dot all your I's right and cross your T's correctly you are denied and can not apply again for a whole year. So they have an agency that will help you with your application for a fee (1,000.00) and even then it can be denied. The application is 200 pages of bond stuff, laws, employee rights, residents rights, State stuff, and then of course money stuff, just to name a few. It costs to submit your application & if it is denied it costs to resubmit, mine was denied once even with the help of a professional. I had to get my administrator's license as well because even if I hire an administrator or have one I to begin with  have to be one so I know the rules and regulations correctly myself. That is an 40 hour class with the test at the end of the week and it costs $250. for this class and then you are required 40 hrs of continuing education hours every 2 years to keep the license current the classes were all over the State of Calif and had to be done in a certain amount of time so you could not hold off hope that they would hold one close to your area (online stuff wasn't acceptable until the last year of me having it). There was also certain certifications required to obtain....... again classes, money, and my time away from family and my real job.
Because the State was involved with the ex's situation they were suppose to expedite my license. One of the things I learned in the numerous classes and orientation........there is an 80% mortality with the elderly by being move from home to a facility to another facility.... old folks just do not like change, it is tough for any of us, but the precipitations of our parents generation of a "HOME" was convalescent homes and that meant a place to go die. They were not comfy make it your own home places like they have now and what our place was. The carehome had a certain charm and it had 13 residents that would need new homes if they just shut the doors. So the State will not just go in and empty out a facility unless it is pretty horrible, they want it to stay open but with different management and staff if at all possible. The assisted living homes are badly in need of along with dementia care and Alzheimer.  But they didn't do me any favors that were told to me in the beginning, I was treated the same as all the other applicants except my agenda was cramped into a huge time frame. I took classes I did numerous forms and financial statements. I had to prove private income, operating costs that I could obtain in case of emergency within 72 hours which meant a minimum of 86,000.00!!! Thank God for my credit history and my years of living in my means. I did not have that in a bank but I had enough credit that I could borrow to come within that #. Every step of this process was a stress,  a major how much more stress can I go thru kind of stress while working full time and raising a family, a very active family. The hoops jumping thru were never ending and there was never any compensation or money coming from the home yet to support all the fees, licenses, applications, courses, certifications, and traveling. The ex's license was being revoked in Nov. I started in March come Nov. I still hadn't had my application approved so I operated under a emergency temporary until mine got approved.
     To Be Continued........

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me - hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four standard questions you answered! Grab the badge for your post if you like:

Acting Balanced

1. What is your favorite charity to donate to?
2. When was the last time you danced?
3. How do you show someone you care about them?
4. Do you send holiday cards?

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

1. St. Jude's Hospital
2. I did the silly me me dance Friday while watching the grandson. Slow danced by the woodstove with the hubs late Tuesday night while I was sick from treatment. He knows that the healing is from loving.
3. Little things....a quick note or text, pick up something I know they like, I still love to mail notes in the mail. For family I make sure I have favorite things for them without them asking. And I CALL just to say hello.
4. YES I love to do Holiday cards.

My 5th question is........What is your take on Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas??
I find no reason why we can not be correct when we wish someone Merry Christmas, I think it is a shame that we have to correct ourselves when at work etc... to say Happy Holidays as not to offend anyone by saying Merry Christmas.

NOW we are going back to what we did before and fitting lots of celebrating Jesus's birth.

Five Question friday

Five Question Friday!!

So it has been a very long time sense I linked up and did this hop, mostly because well i get fumbled up on the questions like who wants Debbie Downer to check in on aggh but I am getting over that and I love all the bloggers who do this one weekly so no more sour grapes here I am jumping in and you should too.

1. How many times have you moved and do you have any tips? I am not going to count childhood, I was in foster homes during my teens, I am going with once I had children. 6x's we lived in 6 houses 3 different cities but all in the same county. The house before we moved into our place now I lived in 16 yrs. Tips on the last move, use large black leaf bags for bedding, coats and other bulky items it kept them clean saved room.
2. Do you have a budget for the holidays, or just keep sliding the credit card and have a heart attack in Jan? I try not to use the card for most of the things only some but I try and have a said amount for each child & relative. If I do use credit it always gets paid with the tax return in Feb.
3. What is the one medical thing you avoid like the plague? I hate blood, I am a fainter!! With all my treatments lately my biggest fear is having the port put in for chemo so right now I am allowing Dr.s to do so much extra testing and trails in hopes of no port!!!
4. What your least favorite Christmas song? It depends on who is trying to sing it.....I have some I like but then you have some new pop star or old washed up star who puts out a Christmas album and aaghh butchered a classic.
5. This Christmas are you spending more, less or about the same? Why? I am probably spending close to the same with the excemption of now having a grand baby but I am maintaining control I know babies do not need much so why go overboard just because it is cute I mean there is lots of things cute but i am not hopping no fence to hand them a gift of my leg to munch on.
Happy friday to all..........!

Old Favorite New Memory

I have not made it to an Nevada City Victorian Christmas in years. I am so excited me & my sister Rainy are going this year!! Just us sisters we will meet in the city and enjoy a old time favorite event. I am also excited to replace my pickle ornament, mine broke in our move. Do you know the story on the pickle ornament?
The Christmas pickle is not an actual pickle, it is simply a Christmas ornament that is shaped like a pickle. The ornament is hidden on a family's Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning, all of the children in the house take turns looking for the pickle ornament and the child who finds the Christmas pickle receives an extra present for his or her good work.

This is what my old one looked like I got it when I was 16 in Grass Valley
Today, parents love this tradition because it encourages children to take the time to appreciate all of the beautiful ornaments on the Christmas tree. Instead of simply rushing to open their presents, they spend time talking about the unique history of all the holiday decorations. (courtesy of Bing info).
I have a few things written down that I want to do, attend, & experience again quickly, I can not say "Bucket List" because a bucket list is for things you have NEVER done. I do have a few of those as well but oddly enough those aren't as important to me to accomplish as the ones that I have done before but it has been a while....like the Nevada City event, the trips over to S.F and Monterey's candy cane lane to mention a few this time of year.
The reconnecting with my siblings has been a major blessings and I am cherishing having sister time, we are very similiar in our sense of humor so it is a hoot doing things together. I try and not think of what life would have been like if we were raised together being so close in age and stuff but focus on the memories we have made. We lost 22 yrs of our lives together (thanks mom NOT) but we have  more memories to establish and our children are close that is a HUGE rebuilding of our heritage/family history. I will post photos from our adventure after we attend :]

Questions

  1. Do you have your tree up yet? If not, when will you put it up? If you don't have a tree, please tell me about another tradition you like.
  2. What was the best job you ever had? The worst?
  3. Do you drive around and look at Christmas lights? If not applicable, tell me something you like to look at when you go for a drive.
  4. Does your tea kettle have a whistle?
  5. Do you like boots?
                                         ANSWERS;
1. No tree up yet, I am not sure when I want to get a new one our old one has a middle section of lights that will not work and even though I always put more on anyway it is so very noticeable to me so I want a new one. It took me a long while to agree to a fake one but my fear of fire won me over to the fake & the pets help as well so now I wouldn't want to go back to the mess, stress, and waste of a real tree. we live in amongst pine trees I don't miss the smell that is what most will say in pro real tree debate ( I was a pro-er for yrs.).
2. Best job I ever had was/is being a mom!! The worst was the carehome, do not get me wrong I loved the people but it was a very draining sometimes disgusting job.
3. I love to drive and look at lights L O V E it!! When my older kids were little I called it our night of lights adventure. I get more oohhs & aahhs from the Christmas lights than fireworks.
4. Sure does and this time of year we drink alot of tea, I try and keep it on the wood stove so I can have it always ready but it whistles too much for the hubs so he sets it nexts to the stove.
5. I love boots but boots can be tricky for me, I have very wide feet (Flintstones feet they have been called) so finding comfy boots that are stylish is tough, but the mudders oh I love me them boots!!
Happy Week to you all and thanks Patrice for being such a fun host great questions, post some piglet pictures okay?  oh and HAY Wendell.

Get Drunk?? WTH???

I do not drink very often, my husband hasn't drank in years, mostly because of the medications he takes but also he never was much of a drinker. He did like a cold beer in the summer time but even if he bought a six pack he rarely finished the whole thing. When he did drink he was happy & fun never mean or aggressive.  I liked that about him especially sense my 1st husband was an alcoholic & verbally abusive ( he quit after we divorced)  my step-dad was a mean drunk, physically abusive (I can not nicely say he was an alcoholic he was a drunk) so alcohol makes me nervous in men. In my twenties I bartended shocking yes but the money was good and it allowed me to work nights and be home with the kids during the day, but I DID NOT drink while working or after!! My boss liked that about me & I was a rare employee in that environment. I can enjoy life without adding alcohol. I do not need to have a few drinks to get out on the dance floor and boogie my butt off. I like to go to the clubs & dance, but I can go without drinking and have fun, YES I make an excellent sober driver. I don't need to feel tipsy to have the nerve to do anything... I have that nerve naturally!! yep I am secure like that....go ahead hate me now LOL
So when the Dr. told me Friday at my appt. to go home and have a few drinks and relax, I was stunned on what to drink, as a mixologists a zillion drinks roll thru my head??? I have a bottle of good wine at home. I keep a favorite in the fridge (it was bought 2 yrs. ago). But wine just didn't sound good, we have a super storm blowing right now so I kept thinking maybe a hot drink..... hot toddies, hot butter rums, hot chocolate with rum or peppermint schnapps eww no peppermint, Baileys & coffee?? I am cruising the alcohol isle in Raileys trying to get a feel of what would be delicious .... how about um....  no ....yuck.....then I got a glance of the items of booze on sale,  I see the sales tag of an old favorite that I enjoyed back in the day when we would go out and I didn't really feel like a drink just something to sip yes people there is sipping drinks!!! BUTTERSCOTCH schnapps yummy the perfect sipper over crushed ice YUM!! and then it also works in the hot chocolate again YUM.
As I pull up to the house, pouring rain, running for the steps and the cover of the porch,
the hubs yells is there groceries??
Yes.... just a few bags do you got them??
He does, and then he asks the usual...did you get ice cream? whats for dinner? how did your appt.
go, what did the Dr. say, how are you feeling??
Yes I got ice cream and the creamer for the tea, I have those pork roast in the crock pot
you have been smelling all day. DUH that's whats for dinner.
The Dr. said for me to go home and get drunk!!
The Hubs....what ?? no he did not!! There is no way the Dr. said for you to get drunk?!?
Yes he did....... YES HE DID.......okay the stares got to me,
so this is what the Dr. suggested (said.... suggested... geez)
I am knotted up and not sleeping well again, the news of this weeks tests have me wondering & worried, and just exhausted!! I am so tired of being tired.
The Holidays leave me a mess of a stress and never wearing a cute dress!! LOL
ugh I just struggle during the Holidays.
The Dr. and I are talking about all this stuff and he looks at me and says ....I think you should go home have a drink , glass of wine, and relax!!! Allow yourself to just soak in a hot tub with a drink and relax!! So I bought me a bottle of some sipping booze had 2 glasses, sat in the hot tub while it poured rained and the wind blew and TRIED to relax.......it lasted about 2 hours.......that's a start..... 2 hours are better than  none.......
so if you see me out on the dance floor having fun just know it doesn't mean I am drunk  yep yep whoop whoop I am a crazy girl getting my groove on!!!
