QUESTIONS
  1. What's your favorite thing to have in hot cocoa/ hot chocolate?
  2. Did you have a white Christmas? Have you had snow since then?
  3. Have you been looking over seed catalogs? If this doesn't apply, what kind of catalogs do you like to leaf through?
  4. Gas stove or electric?
  5. What's new or interesting?
                 ANSWERS:
1. whipping cream or dip a cookie but I don't really care for the marshmellow thingy.
2. We had some snow late in the day but it didn't stick around thru the night and we have had only icy nights sense no white stuff. I would rather have the white then the ice.
3. Not seeds, I had a huge catalog addiction when we first moved (3 yrs, ago) it was so nice to order thru the catalogs no lines, no rude people, & it allowed me to circle items and go back & forth about purchasing things and then get a grip and say I CAN live without that item so No order. Flipping thru catalogs was my de-stress wish list thing for the new house but I bought very little so it was a weird addiction. I would get anywhere between 12-15 catalogs in the mail a day when I 1st quit buying completely from them now it is 5-7.
I give the least liked one to Dollie to chew while I thumb thru the better ones, she doesn't eat the paper she just thinks she is helping me with not ordering LOL.
4. We have electric now.
5. hmmmm toughie.......oh I got the rental car today while mine is in the shop being fix from my wreck... it is new.
HEAD OVER TO PATRICE'S PORCH AND CHECK OUT HER SWEET BABY PIGLETS AND DO SOME CHATTING WITH US ALL. OH AND DON'T FORGET TO BRING WENDELL A CARROT. THANKS PATRICE FOR HOSTING ;]

1. Have you set any goals/resolutions for 2013?

2. Have you made any travel/vacation plans for 2013?

3. What room is never cleaned in your house?

4. What food must be in your house at all times?

5. Are you a hugger or more of a hands off person?
1. Nope I am not a resolution type of person they have back fired on me in the past so I wait a few months into the year when others are falling off theirs and step into the motivation guru friend it is a win ...win!!
2. i have huge travel plans for this year, Hawaii at my brothers new place, Tennessee at my oldest sisters, and several road trips with my sister here in Cali. and spending some time with my aunt in Arizona.
3. the room we call the office, it is off the kitchen, it was an add on sun porch but enclosed so I put my desk (which I can't get to because of all the things put in front of it) out there and then the extra fridge that we do not use or have plugged in, extra folding chairs, Christmas decorations, vacuum, crafts supplies, & the dog crate oh & the recyclables. So much clutter.
4. CEREAL..... the hubs and 10 yr. old will have cereal anytime of day, it is a blessing when I do not want to cook.
5. It really depends on the person...I love a good hug but not from the wrong person or a luke warm hug because you just seen everyone else give me a hug and I know that you know that I know that you and I don't really like eachother but if we don't hug then they will know what we know and so ewww we hugged. BUT FOR THOSE I LOVE OR EVEN LIKE ALOT PLEASE HUG AWAY HUGGIE HUGGERSON!!!

Chats on the Porch 1st for 2013

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch- The First One For 2013

Everyday Ruralty
Happy New Year!

Welcome to Patrice's farmhouse. Here is some conversation from Patrice letting us know what is going on on her porch this week she says  "We'll have to chat inside today. It's very cold and the wind has been fierce. Wendell's hair looks as though he's gotten carried away with mousse. We have five baby pigs, and some lambs on the way. We are making plans for the upcoming year on the farm."

I want to thank everyone who reads this blog. I value your visits and your comments. Interacting with super people makes blogging such a fun thing. I had no idea how much I'd enjoy having a blog, until I took the plunge. Thanks for making it so enjoyable.
This week's questions:
  1. Do you make New Years resolutions?
  2. What do you hope to accomplish this year?
  3. Tell me about your favorite place to think, create, or just relax.
  4. Are you a fan of old movies? (Like the ones that were originally black and white.)
  5. Tell me something that made you happy since our last porch visit. If you're new to the chats, tell me something good that has happened to you lately.
My answers:
1. No not really I tell myself at the beginning of the year I want to work less and take my health serious, I want to try and get closer to God and walk in His light and I do accomplish that one but I get over done with Dr. stuff. This year I have made myself a GOAL...to travel & visit family at least once before the big surgery, I have 3 plane tickets saved for me for different destinations the family is on their own if they plan on going LOL please don't think I am mean or selfish I am far from that I just am limited on my travel times they are not.
2. Reconnecting with family (siblings & their children) I want to leave a footprint in their lives of me. from their own opinion and experiences not by what they were told to believe about me and my life.
3. Favorite place to think is in the car quietly in the am no radio, create would be in my craft basket, and relax is either soaking in my hot tub or in one of the oversized rockers on the deck.
4. Love old movies even black & white ones. These two funny men I actually staked a claim in with the MIL to get which of course made the BIL hate me even more and say I stole them but she did give them to me they are in great condition have never been broken or glued and stand as you can see almost as big as my couch. I have some other old movie stuff but not as cute as these guys or as easy to get a pic of (shhh they are still in boxes we haven't unpacked)

5. i have missed a few porch visits so not sure where to go with this question. I missed them because I was hospitalized. B U T......the love, support, e-mails, and my hubs caring to let the land of blog know I was gone moved me deeply. I love you all so much!!! Thank you for being there to text & e-mail me no matter the time. The first year of blogging was lonely but once I ventured into my 1st hop BLAM, I fell hard for the strong committed community of support and haven't or wouldn't look back for nothing. And Dear Patrice you and Wendell make a person want to visit and post thank you for being a HUGE part in my happiness during 2012 and looking forward to better in 2013. ~Janice~

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday!!

1. If you bake during the holidays, what is your favorite thing to make? I love making brittle I do cashew brittle instead of peanut. Toffee is another favorite and then just recently I shared the caramel recipe with my oldest, the only problem is wrapping the caramels it is a pain. oh wait you said BAKE ....I love to bake .....cakes...I love cake so I will get a basic box mix and church it up.....yes church it up, thank you Joe Dirt for the term I use it quite often.

2. Present giving: Gift bag vs wrapped box? I usually wrap most gifts but somethings I will use a gift bag like the cute bottle gift bags they have. we did homemade kahula so the gift bags came in handy for those gifts. I do hate the paper that gets wasted though in the wrapping, would like to get a recylce project on wrapping paper going.

3. What do you keep your thermostat on during the winter/summer in your house?
Don't have one we have a wood stove only and summer just windows and ceiling fans.4. When thinking of your "Christmas to-do list" what percentage "done" are you?
NOPE, but I do have a few people accomplished I am 40% maybe??5. Do you do the "Elf on a Shelf"? If so, is your Elf naughty and what shenanigans has he gotten into? No we don't now but I do want to get it started with the grandson next year, when Elf came out we weren't home enough to do it, we were always working so he is still in the original package waiting for us to bring the tradition into the family. He has sat in my decorations now 6 years next year we will play with him finally.

Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me - hosted by Acting Balanced and Touristic

Here are FOUR QUESTIONS that everyone can answer and then you have the option to add a fifth question of your own for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four standard questions you answered! Grab the badge for your post if you like:

Acting Balanced

1. What is your favorite charity to donate to?
2. When was the last time you danced?
3. How do you show someone you care about them?
4. Do you send holiday cards?

And don't forget to add a 5th Question on your own blog so we can answer as we hop around!

1. St. Jude's Hospital
2. I did the silly me me dance Friday while watching the grandson. Slow danced by the woodstove with the hubs late Tuesday night while I was sick from treatment. He knows that the healing is from loving.
3. Little things....a quick note or text, pick up something I know they like, I still love to mail notes in the mail. For family I make sure I have favorite things for them without them asking. And I CALL just to say hello.
4. YES I love to do Holiday cards.

My 5th question is........What is your take on Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas??
I find no reason why we can not be correct when we wish someone Merry Christmas, I think it is a shame that we have to correct ourselves when at work etc... to say Happy Holidays as not to offend anyone by saying Merry Christmas.

Sunday Social

This week's questions:

1. Favorite Holiday Movies/TV Specials? Elf,Home for the Holidays, Charlie's Brown Christmas, & of course a Christmas Story.
2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do? YES... we do the Coats Drive (the new school also had sweatshirts donations so I have half of a closet extra space right now), We do adopt a family for the Holidays, We always make a special gift to St Jude's (we give monthly but this is extra)I help with the canned food drive thru my union at work, this year I am not physically able to do much so I am in charge of tallying & keeping track of drop off places oh and the thank you e-mails/cards.
3. Favorite toy received as a Child for the Holidays? really tough question our Christmas's weren't toy friendly so pass!!

4. What was your must have item in high school for the Holidays?
   To have a permanent home.
5. Item you begged for the most and never got? I wanted a matchbox racing set when I was 8 because all the boys at school talked about how cool they were.I was kinda a tomboy.
6. What do you do on Christmas Eve? We open one present and make our phone calls to family out of town wishing them a Merry Christmas so as not to forget to get them in while the BIG days chaos is going on. We are starting fresh for our holiday traditions, for years we had to work double shifts at the carehome so we rearranged the actual days to celebrate as a family... NOW we are going back to what we did before and fitting lots of celebrating Jesus's birth.

Five Question friday

Five Question Friday!!

So it has been a very long time sense I linked up and did this hop, mostly because well i get fumbled up on the questions like who wants Debbie Downer to check in on aggh but I am getting over that and I love all the bloggers who do this one weekly so no more sour grapes here I am jumping in and you should too.

1. How many times have you moved and do you have any tips? I am not going to count childhood, I was in foster homes during my teens, I am going with once I had children. 6x's we lived in 6 houses 3 different cities but all in the same county. The house before we moved into our place now I lived in 16 yrs. Tips on the last move, use large black leaf bags for bedding, coats and other bulky items it kept them clean saved room.
2. Do you have a budget for the holidays, or just keep sliding the credit card and have a heart attack in Jan? I try not to use the card for most of the things only some but I try and have a said amount for each child & relative. If I do use credit it always gets paid with the tax return in Feb.
3. What is the one medical thing you avoid like the plague? I hate blood, I am a fainter!! With all my treatments lately my biggest fear is having the port put in for chemo so right now I am allowing Dr.s to do so much extra testing and trails in hopes of no port!!!
4. What your least favorite Christmas song? It depends on who is trying to sing it.....I have some I like but then you have some new pop star or old washed up star who puts out a Christmas album and aaghh butchered a classic.
5. This Christmas are you spending more, less or about the same? Why? I am probably spending close to the same with the excemption of now having a grand baby but I am maintaining control I know babies do not need much so why go overboard just because it is cute I mean there is lots of things cute but i am not hopping no fence to hand them a gift of my leg to munch on.
Happy friday to all..........!

Everyday Ruralty
oh it is Tuesday and it is cold and Patrice is expecting piglets to be born anytime how exciting huh? I want pictures for sure baby piglets are so sweet!! Okay lets get to chatting if you want to chat along click on the button up there and link up.
Questions

  1. Do you have your tree up yet? If not, when will you put it up? If you don't have a tree, please tell me about another tradition you like.
  2. What was the best job you ever had? The worst?
  3. Do you drive around and look at Christmas lights? If not applicable, tell me something you like to look at when you go for a drive.
  4. Does your tea kettle have a whistle?
  5. Do you like boots?
                                         ANSWERS;
1. No tree up yet, I am not sure when I want to get a new one our old one has a middle section of lights that will not work and even though I always put more on anyway it is so very noticeable to me so I want a new one. It took me a long while to agree to a fake one but my fear of fire won me over to the fake & the pets help as well so now I wouldn't want to go back to the mess, stress, and waste of a real tree. we live in amongst pine trees I don't miss the smell that is what most will say in pro real tree debate ( I was a pro-er for yrs.).
2. Best job I ever had was/is being a mom!! The worst was the carehome, do not get me wrong I loved the people but it was a very draining sometimes disgusting job.
3. I love to drive and look at lights L O V E it!! When my older kids were little I called it our night of lights adventure. I get more oohhs & aahhs from the Christmas lights than fireworks.
4. Sure does and this time of year we drink alot of tea, I try and keep it on the wood stove so I can have it always ready but it whistles too much for the hubs so he sets it nexts to the stove.
5. I love boots but boots can be tricky for me, I have very wide feet (Flintstones feet they have been called) so finding comfy boots that are stylish is tough, but the mudders oh I love me them boots!!
Happy Week to you all and thanks Patrice for being such a fun host great questions, post some piglet pictures okay?  oh and HAY Wendell.

Great give Away get away 7

No Sense Question #7

There are just two questions left in The Great Get-Away Give-Away.  I cannot believe we have quickly come to the close of the contest!  It has been a blast, and I have enjoyed getting to know many of you even better.  That's the point of all this - right?  Building community.  Being relational.  Life's too much of an adventure to miss out on sharing it.

So here is the question for this week:

You have to give up one of your senses.  Which one will it be and why?

I have always been so in tuned to my senses, I write about them in describing many things. So this post and question came together rather easily.
I have mom ears, my children never whispered things without me "over" hearing them. I do not need to eavesdrop I have excellent hearing, I purposely turn the radio on at work so I don't hear conversations going on down the halls. But as much as I do not want to hear certain things I have so much more that I would not want NOT to hear so hearing stays! My sight is getting worst, but I still love the fussy colors of a sunset or a sunrise. I enjoy looking into the eyes of a person to see a glimpse of their  heart (it is true you can see the heart thru the eyes).I love to see the look of laughter & love in my families face so I am keeping the sight. Have you ever burnt your tongue on some hot drink or soup? It takes a day or two to get your taste back right? But in that day does it stop you from eating anything delicious? No we sometimes eat more hoping to get a taste. Every time I have been on the liquid diets or IV only, my desire to eat real food goes sky high it is more than just taste, it is the chewing along with the flavors, the salty, crunchy items the more satisfying. Taste is too yummy to give up. Touch is the most basic nurturing need we as humans crave, without touch we are withdrawn and lonely. You can light up a persons whole day by a gentle pat on the arm and what do they say about HUGS?? it is pure happy therapy.... nope not giving up touch. Which leaves me down to smell. I am a smeller, I smell everything, I can not help it. I love the smell of clean hair, candles, pine trees, the ocean, my kids, clean sheets. But with that comes lots of problems....I do not drink milk I hate the smell, I do not drink enough water, again sometimes it smells funny. Some scents give me headaches but I still like the smell at first. I can not eat anything burnt or overly toasted because the smell. Tire stores another place that I get a horrible headache from the smell so my sense to give up would be .....SMELL.
